Anxiety is contagious, but so is calm.
I've decided to start exploring meditation and mantras. While sometimes the day to day can be tough, I think it's important to focus on the aspects of your life that bring you the most joy. For me, its's spending time with pup, cookie, monster, and my kitchen.
Using meditation and breathing allows you to focus in- hone in on just your breathe and leave the overwhelming thoughts at the door. It's something I've really only done in yoga classes- which I've been going to since I was a senior in high school. (Yes, I've been dealing with anxiety since I was 14).
Living in NYC it's hard to find a quiet moment between the work hustle, the crowds, the need and crave to rise up, or wait in lines for the newest vegan restaurant. But with a little breathing, the crowded subway during rush hour can be somewhat bearable. And for all those who aren't into to that spiritual ish, a drink will work just as well- I mean hey, the research of wine before bed is there...maybe?
Well for all those who like a good cocktail to end the hectic week, the persephone is the perfect thing to mull over.
Slightly Adapted from Tasting Table
- 1 oz applejack
- 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
- 1/2 oz sloe gin
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice
- Stir ingredients together.
- Pour over ice.
- Garnish with lemon wedge.
