I happen to love enjoying a good cocktail (I mean, who doesn’t?), but even more so, I love making a good cocktail. I think this enjoyment came from back in the day when I used to make my parents screwdrivers. Why was I bartending at 10? Who knows? But I sure did love mixing up some drinks….and maybe sneaking a few. But as the weather gets warmer, drinking more seems appropriate, especially outdoors. I thought, how perfect to whip up a pretty margarita to sip on as the flowers begin to bloom. I mean Cinco De Mayo is also coming up, so it seemed to also fit on the food celebration spectrum as well. I must also warn you, this drink sneaks up on you- so unless your looking for a wild night- don’t have too many!

Serves: 1 drink


  • 1 cup hibiscus tea, chilled
  • 1 teaspoon agave syrup
  • 1 ½ oz. tequila
  • ½ oz. orange liquor
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice


  1. Place all ingredients in a shaker or large jar. Shake to mix together.
  2. Pour over ice and garnish with a lime wedge.



*Note: to make hibiscus tea, I steeped hibiscus flowers overnight in the refrigerator. Alternatively, you can use hibiscus tea bags to steep.
